The River Road Elementary School in Columbus, GA, within Muscogee County School District, has received the Educator of the Year Award from the Mayor's Committee on People with Disabilities. The following is a section from the Muscogee County School District's press release:
"River Road Elementary is recognized for the collective efforts of staff and faculty to mainstream children with disabilities. The staff and administrators have created the ultimate learning environment for all students who attend River Road. Programs to enhance social skills and efforts to develop an outdoor sensory garden for children with autism and other sensory disorders are leading examples of an inclusive education, which benefit students and their parents—making our community a better place to live."
River Road Principle Patrick Knopf credits the DoDEA Military K–12 Partnership Grant with helping to bring the Educator of the Year Award to his school. Muscogee County's grant has allowed the school to invest in technology for alternative learning tools and to connect students with autism and other disabilities with their peers, their teachers, and the world.
Congratulations River Road Elementary and Muscogee County School District!
